If There Is a Crime or Accident: DIAL 110

Contacting the Police Department

To notify the police of a crime or accident, dial 110. This is a toll-free number which operates 24 hours a day, from anywhere in the country. If someone has been injured, inform the operator and an ambulance will be dispatched.

Police Boxes and Substations

Police boxes and substations are 24-hour neighborhood police stations that can be found throughout the city. Officers not only patrol local streets and engage in crime prevention activities from these offices, but perform a wide range of duties, from handling traffic violations and accidents, to safe-keeping lost-and-found articles, giving directions, and taking reports on lost children or missing persons.

If You Are Involved in a Traffic Accident...

If you are the victim of a traffic accident:

  1. Obtain the other party's name, address, telephone number, age, driver's license number, license plate number, and, if they have insurance, their insurance company name, type of insurance and policy number.
  2. You should go to a hospital for an examination even if your injuries seem minor or if you do not have any visible injuries. Problems may develop in the future, and you may need a medical examination certificate at a later date.
